DRIVERS could save countless pounds on their car insurance simply by installing a black box, new information finds.

And even motorists having a poor driving history could see their premiums slashed.

Black boxes accustomed to simply be for young drivers, who can see savings of hundreds of pounds a year.

But insurers now offer discounts to everyone, with careful drivers able to save up to Half on their own premiums by using a black box.

Conducted by Coverbox, a study discovered that motorists 50 plus could save more than lb350 on renewal using the device.

And for motorists with previous convictions such as drink driving, the tracking device could reduce their inflated premiums by almost 50 per cent.

Black boxes are affixed to your car and track your everyday driving to give a sign of methods risky you're.

After each journey you're given a score based on how well you've driven – including fast acceleration, harsh braking or speeding.

The best drivers can be rewarded with discounts and "prizes" every month or at renewal.

Research also found that drivers in notorious insurance claim "hotspots" could actually spend less using a black box because of their location.

According to Coverbox, driver scores are tested alongside where you are to determine the price of an insurance policy.

If motorists drive safely in areas which are known for a higher quantity of insurance claims, they're likely to benefit even more from lower premiums.

Howard Collinge, Director at Coverbox, said: “There is a huge selection of drivers that stand to take advantage of telematics insurance, not only younger drivers rich in premiums.

"Anyone paying over lb650 annually could potentially save around 20 percent, with good drivers saving even more.

"Blackbox policies also help drivers become safer on the highway, rewarding all of them with further savings.”
