BRITISH drivers could save themselves the hassle of airport parking if you rent then out their motor while on holidays – and make additional cash simultaneously.
A new scheme continues to be introduced that may see motorists constitute to lb160 a week while they're off travelling.
Airport parking is definitely an expensive accessory for any holiday, plus some firms won't take better care of your motor, leaving it available to damage or even theft.
We have heard the horror stories of cars receiving away to strangers, but a brand new rental scheme could leave the stresses of airport parking behind – and produce a little extra spending money.
London Gatwick Airport has partnered with car sharing startup Car & Off to launch the initiative, that will allow motorists to leave their cars in the airport for use by other drivers while they're away.
Vehicle owners simply register their car through the Gatwick parking website, then park within the designated South Terminal area before they jet off.
Those that wish to hire the cars can search for the type of motor they need through Rentalcars.com.
Owners of small cars can allegedly make around lb80 a week in rental income, while the rate for bigger cars is often as much as lb160 each week.
And for anyone concerned about their car being covered for someone else they are driving it, Car & Away claim they'll insure all motors before and after they're rented out.
To make sure your motor is protected, car rentals may also be installed having a black box device from Octo Telematics to trace its movements.
The car's usage will be monitored from the time it drives from the carpark to the return, establishing any liability in the event of any sort of accident, in addition to measuring safe driving behaviour and any wear and tear brought on by poor driving.
The box may then remove easily and also the policy cancelled as soon as the car is returned – with the car also cleaned inside and outside, ready for that proprietors to return.
Andy Hibbert, Car & Away founder and CEO, said: “Sharing a car while people disappear isn't such a big step. Especially when owners not only earn money out of it, but take advantage of dropping the vehicle next to the terminal and receiving a professional cleaning service.
"Having Octo Telematics set up in every car supplies a much greater level of assurance to the community of owners and renters.
"This clever device provides key insights to the insurers meaning they can provide the best value cover and peace of mind so owners can enjoy their holiday whilst their car is earning and renters can enjoy an incredible rental experience from the great selection of cars available."
